Almost 100 volunteers assist in the day-to-day operation of the Museum, the Foundation, and the Museum Store. Our volunteer staff routinely serves as the main public contact for visitors. The docents greet visitors when they arrive and offer a brief overview of the museum. Many of our docents are retired military and Department of Defense employees with an astounding history of experiences to enhance your museum visit. The Museum Store volunteers are happy to greet you when your museum visit ends and to assist you in selecting an appropriate gift or souvenir. Other volunteer opportunities are available in the library and in the curatorial area.
Twice a year, the Foundation supports Volunteer Recognition events - Summer and Winter parties. At other times, the volunteers are invited to attend special programs with speakers, tours to area military facilities, exhibit openings, and behind-the-scenes tours. They also receive a discount at the Museum Store and a monthly newsletter, the Sonar Echo.
